The film reflects the spirit of the youth in Nepal today, who live in growing political and economic uncertainty. Although it is a fictional film, the threads of the narrative are based on events that may be hard to believe, but are related as true in fables, myths, and allegories of the region.

The film, a rare Nepal-Sri Lanka co-production, marks the feature directorial debut of Nepalese filmmaker Fidel Devkota, who previously directed the short “The Last Yak Herder of Dhe” (2014) and documentary short “Wind of Change in Lo Mustang” (2016).

“The Red Suitcase,” which world premieres in the Venice Film Festival‘s Horizons strand, is a rare Nepal-Sri Lanka co-production. The producers have released a first clip from the film. Nepalese debut follows roads less travelled - both visually and in terms of its oblique narrative. Political protest, poetically-toned parable and an eerie streak of the supernatural make for an inconsistent but undeniably individual package in writer-director Fidel Devkota’s Nepalese drama The Red Suitcase.

Catherine Dussart Productions (CDP) from France and Michael Henrichs’ Die Gesellschaft DGS from Germany have boarded Nepalese writer and director Abinash Bikram Shah’s Season of Dragonflies (Jhyalincha). Nepal’s Icefall Productions and Shooney Films are also producing. Icefall producer Ram Krishna Pokharel is also attending Film Bazaar alongside Henrichs.

Written and directed by Bikram Sapkota, Halkara portrays the life of a postman delivering letters. It features his dreams, internal conflicts, and the dynamics of foreign employment. Mahesh Tripathi essays the lead role, while Binita Thapa Magar, Umesh Tamang, Pashupati Rai and Deepak Kshetri are in supporting roles. The film was produced by Kalipar Studio and Icefall Productions.

Ramkrishna Pokharel, the head of Icefall Productions, the production company from Nepal, informed that the shooting of the film was completed from Indra Chowk in Kathmandu on Monday. Earlier, the film was shot for 14 days in Manang and 14 days in Pokhara. "The cooperation with the Israeli team was very interesting," Pokharel said.
